A Bread Science Experiment

Location: Les Saintes

6:57 am. JBL charged with Humble & Kind next in the queue. We're ready, but why is literally nobody except for me awake? Normally somebody's up…

Wakeups are at 8 am today. Alas… I am ready.

EIGHT AM (I just looked up what am stands for cause I actually had no idea, and apparently it means ante meridiem in Latin, which translates to "before midday"… the more ya know). My lovely sleeping friends are awoken from their slumber by a duet between Tim McGraw and me. A performance that will be in the running for duet of the year at next year's Grammy Awards. Nashota joined in, and a band was formed. Wow, it was beautiful. Tears were shed.

Yogurt. Yum. Wow, I love yogurt. I used to hate it, actually, but wow, I love it now.

Marine Bio Final EXAMMMMM!!!! Let's hope they all passed!

Joey makes this soup that literally every single person who's ever tried it loves, and lucky for us, today was the day. It was delicious. Thanks, Joey!!! Oh, and we got surprise baguettes from Mac's trip to shore—the perfect pairing.

Did you guys know you can replace oil with yogurt in bread? And it kinda results in… sourdough… ???? ….. well SURPRISE !! We recently ran out of oil (oppsies), but thanks to my lovely friend Pinterest, we've learned that you can. Sounds weird, but I think you should try it and then get back to me.

Picture this… a beach layered in snorkelers and French tourists enjoying a nice holiday. A dolphin! Wow! And then us… 10 feet below the surface… full scuba gear… spinning each other in circles to manipulate vertigo. Welcome to the PADI Rescue Diver Course!! Laughs were had, regs were shared, people were saved, tourists were entertained.

The bread is served! And somehow the mix of yeast and the live active cultures of Yoplait plain yogurt reproduced to create a full-size bread loaf for everyone! Joey's veggie orzo became a side at the point. 10/10 flavor as always, though.

Let me set the scene. You have a house… It's your dream house. What kind of flowers are in your front yard, what kind of dog is running around, and what color is your front door? The squeeze question tonight. Really tested everyone's ability to create a Pinterest board in their brains. Hydrangeas, Lillies, Peonies, Daisies, baby's breath, ivy, I think we listed like 30 different kinds of flowers. Blue, red, green, yellow… if we all lived in the same neighborhood, I think we could complete the rainbow with our front doors. Golden retrievers, Rottweilers, big ol' fluffy dogs, cocker spaniels, and a cat? (? Kyler?).

And that's the day! It's crazy to think that there are fewer than 2 weeks left of the program. It feels like it's been a year since this all began, yet also like it was just yesterday. All I know is that we're going to spend these last 11 days soaking it all in together as one big Vela family.

To my family… I love you so much, and I miss you like crazy!! I can't wait to see you in less than a month!

Here's to my final blog for Vela Spring 2026 Cape Town to Antigua… gosh, I love these people.

All my love,
Emma

Happy Birthday to Perry's mom!!!!! Claudine!!
