Learning the Ropes

Location: Savannah Bay, Virgin Gorda

Today was a big day for the brand new crew of Ocean Star. We spent our first night on the boat last night and woke up eager to leave our comfortable spot in Soper's Hole. The morning was spent exploring Soper's Hole; some of us got coffee and smoothies from D'Best cup. For the coffee drinkers, this was bittersweet because from here on out, we would be drinking instant coffee only (yikes). After a very thorough explanation of all the rules and regulations, we got ready to leave with some last-minute provisions. A local outside of the Harbor Market told us, "Let go of your worries, let go of your cries. Be carefree, but careful, and enjoy your time!" and then photobombed our group photo. With this bit of wisdom, we boarded O Star and prepared to leave the dock. We pulled one of our very heavy dinghies on board using our strong arms, and not the hydraulics -  our Captain says, "why would I use the hydraulics, I have deckhands!". We motor-sailed for a few hours, making our first passage through the cobalt blue water to Savannah Bay on Virgin Gorda. As the sunset, we swam four laps around the boat and trod water for our swim test before settling down for an evening of Sloppy Joe's and dive lecture!
