First Sail Day!

Location: Mountain Point, VG

Today was the second day of our voyage. We started the day off with bowls of cereal and a morning meeting on Ocean Star, revisiting the guidelines for our voyage. Afterward, we had our final OStar crewmate, Woodrow, arrive! We then had some free time to do some last-minute shopping for snacks and souvenirs and then met up for lunch, which consisted of a variety of sandwiches, before we set off for our first sail to Mountain Point! The crew of GinTini split up with Julia, Emi, Maeva, Woodrow, and Sofia on GinTini while the rest of us went over to Ocean Star with the rest of the uncertified divers.GinTini left port early morning while Ocean Star got a bit of a late start after multiple attempts to get the dingy on board. Luckily, on the fourth try we were successful and began our journey!

We started our sail admiring the beautiful scenery around us, then made our way downstairs to begin the process of becoming certified divers. After an hour or so of watching informative videos on diving, we made our way to the deck for dinner, which was sloppy joes, salad, mashed potatoes, and other sides. We then made our way back downstairs to finish the last bit of informational diving videos. Once we arrived in Mountain Point, we dropped the anchors and jumped into the ocean for the first time! We completed our swim test, which was four laps around the boat and 10 minutes of treading water, just as the sun began to set, which was beautiful. We then all went back to the boats where we slept to take our first ocean shower. The sun had already set, and it was pitch black outside, so we turned on the underwater boat lights so we could see better in the ocean. The lights attracted giant Tuna fish whose shadows slightly resembled sharks, which made our first ocean shower very memorable! It was a great first full day and sail of the trip, and we are all very excited to begin diving tomorrow!
