Dive Day!
Location: Sint Eustatius
Hey Blog! It’s already day 13, and time is flying by. Today we woke up extra early at 6 to get ready for the day and head to land, where we would be split into groups for diving and land time. We ate cereal for breakfast, then took the dinghies over to land. Kate, Sofia, Morgan, Vivian, Payton, Hanna, Loxley, Maeva, Haley, Yanyu, and I were in the first diving group while the others stayed on land to explore Statia before it was their turn to dive. Our first dive was to a ship wreck just out past where Ocean Star was anchored. We saw so many different kinds of fish swimming throughout the wreck, and came across a giant stingray lying on the ocean floor, and a giant barracuda swimming in the distance. The current was so strong, and many people got a fin to the head as everyone was swimming in a tight group. After our first dive, we took a short break before we began our second dive at a spot called the Hangover, which had ledges formed from lava flow. The main stars of this dive were a LionFish and a giant lobster. It was then lunch time, and everyone from Gintini met back at the boat for lunch, which was ramen and sandwiches, while Ocean Star dined on land. The second diving group then went out to start their two dives, while group one went to land to explore. Tessa, Lindsey, Sofia, Kate, and I went to a nice restaurant on the beach and got some smoothies before we hitchhiked to a nearby convenience store for snacks. We then met up with the rest of group one at a beach and swam around before we had to go back to Gintini and Ocean Star for dinner.
Tessa and Kate swam in the ocean for an hour while I did laundry, and Sofia sunbathed. Emi, Francesca, Julia, and Lusi got back to Gintini from their dive, where we then had white bean soup for dinner. Tom then gave us a quick recap on VHF for our test tomorrow. During the recap, all of a sudden, three masked but oddly familiar robbers boarded our boat, demanding eggs. They rampaged through all of our fridges and freezers except the one that actually had the eggs. Zoe grabbed Annika and dragged her across the boat, trying to toss her into the ocean, and Maeva fell in. They all scrambled into the dinghy and retreated from Gintini with no eggs to make cookies. Gintini ended their night with freshly baked cookies and a movie night watching Maze Runner.
