BDE!

Location: English Harbor, Antigua

Today was perfect. BDE (Best Day Ever), as we say here on Ocean Star.

We had a super chill morning waking up to a rainbow and prepping the schooner for our last short passage, then had an easy journey around the beautiful island of Antigua, passing the time with Captain Gabe and his folktales that we all play along to while soaking up the last few days of Caribbean afternoon sun.

Once we arrived at the harbor, we had to anchor the boat and immediately grab our things and head to the dinghy because it was time to explore Antigua. Once we made it to shore, we all split up into mini groups and began immersing ourselves in our surroundings, stopping at local coffee shops, souvenir shops, the yacht club, and, most importantly, the public bathrooms because those are a delicacy when you live on Ocean Star. A lot of people went dinghy sailing as well, which was hilarious to watch. You could hear them laughing all the way from the dock.

After that long day full of sun and activities, it was time for Shirley Heights, the best place on earth. So we all quickly got dressed up and piled into our taxis with the best drivers, who gave us a full tour and historical rundown of Antigua on the way there. At Shirley’s, we all ate great food that Sea|mester kindly took care of and danced our hearts out together like we’d known each other for years.

Every day that goes by with this incredible crew makes me feel so honored because what are the chances we all signed up for this trip, this summer, and all ended up getting along so perfectly? I mean, how did we get so lucky? I’m so grateful to have learned from these beautiful people on these insane islands and so happy I got to be skipper on day 18 (BDE).

To Shirley Heights, you truly are the best place on earth. And to Sea|mester, 18 days ago, I had no idea what to expect from this program, and now here I am, not knowing what I’ll do without it.

So if you’re reading this today, take it as your sign to do the hard thing. I promise it won’t let you down
