Marine Science Instructor

Michelle Carpenter is a marine biologist with over a decade of experience dedicated to the study and protection of marine life. With a PhD from the University of Cape Town, Michelle’s research has delved into the intricate aspects of the population and behavior of manta and devil rays in Southern Africa. Michelle’s commitment to marine conservation goes beyond research, with roles as a dive guide for expeditions at Sardine Run, sailing the South Pacific, New Zealand, studying manta rays in Indonesia, and working in coral restoration and reef monitoring in the Caribbean. Michelle is also an outreach educator and loves raising awareness to help inspire others to join the mission of preserving our oceans for future generations. After six dreamy years of marine research, freediving, scuba diving, surfing, and shorebreaking in southern Africa, Michelle is eager to transition from her coastal lifestyle to a more oceanic one with Sea|mester. She’s thrilled for the next adventure and all the rewarding challenges it brings.
