Location: Almerimar, Spain
Hello from Almerimar/Grenada! Today was a VERY early morning. I woke everyone up at 5:15 with a specifically curated playlist, and an hour later, we set off for the historic Alhambra. We arrived 1.5 hours later, much to the displeasure of those of us who had been sleeping (most of us!), and were ushered off the bus to meet our lovely tour guide, Miriam. She gave us all earpieces and a device that looked suspiciously like an iPod so that we could all hear her, so by the end, we all looked like either secret service agents or Y2K wannabes, depending on who you ask. Our tour was amazing; it took us all throughout Alhambra, including the gardens and the summer house. We all learned so much about the religious and political history of the area and saw adorable cats! After our tour, we got back on the bus to go into the city of Grenada, where we all split up for a bit to explore the city. Some of the highlights were the knitting club (Daisy, Gabby, and Anna) exploring the yarn store to get more supplies, Greta and Fifi finding a pirate-themed caf, and the matching white linen shirts Rob, Sean, Xavi, and Joe got. We all made it to the meet-up point safely and boarded the bus for another 1.5-hour trip back to Almerimar. After we made it back to Argo, we had an awesome Oceanography class where we finished up the chemistry unit, to the relief of many. Once class ended, a few of us (Sienna, Xavi, Greta, Rob, Gabby, Will, and I) went for a freezing swim before jumping into our equally freezing showers. Once I had warmed up, Will was kind enough to let me play his guitar for a bit, and then we left for dinner on shore! We were given a free range of Almerimar restaurants, so we split into a few groups to enjoy our time on land. We returned for the night around 10, and although we should’ve gone to bed, many of us stayed up talking and laughing late into the night. Today was an awesome day, and I’m excited for tomorrow’s watch team challenge course. Go Watch Team 2!
