Location: Statai

The day began with breakfast in St Barth’s – crunchy bam bams! We then left the dock and raised our sails just out past the channel. Once underway, we raised the fishermen and the flying jib. I enjoyed being at the help of such a great sail with all six sails up. We arrived in Statia by 2 p.m., passing some huge oil tankers at the northern end of the island. Boomer went ashore to clear customs while we squared the boat away. Ready for MTE class at 3 p.m. Following this, Winston and I went for a swim, hoping to find some slave beads – no luck, though! After dinner, we topped the day off with another OCE marathon 2-hour class. We were learning about waves and then moved on to our final module – management – and discussed fisheries and the problems of overfishing.
