Location: Rodney Bay, St. Lucia
The crossing is at last complete!!! The feeling of satisfaction is hard to describe; the past few weeks have been an adventure unlike any other. I think the significance of our time on passage will grow as time goes on. What a gift it is to be able to sail across an ocean.
So many people have done it before us, and that is part of what makes it special. From the Vikings to the pilgrims, from the pirate ships to the slave galleons, and the explorers to the admirals, the Atlantic has seen it all. The story of sailing is epic, and it is quite something to have become a part of it.
Today was a great day. For me, it all began with an anchor watch. I got to see the sun rise over St. Lucia. It was beautiful. The morning consisted of a much-needed boat appreciation session, and the afternoon was spent ON DRY GROUND. Wow. Crazy. Everyone got some food and had a wonderful time being on a solid surface for a bit. At 1500, all of us returned to the dinghy dock to help shuffle new provisions back to Vela. Once everything was stowed away, we motored down the coast as the sun set over the horizon. The sea was calm. Dinner was burgers and potatoes. Delicious.
And so ends our first day post-passage. It’s hard to believe we only have nine more days…
Much love to the family in Raleigh! Can’t wait to seee you all soon!
