Today we went on a fruit tour!!!! Our guide, Stowe, was made for speed. He gave us the fastest rundown on the whole island while giving us a NASCAR driving experience. Not only was he a fantastic conversationalist, but he also made tons of surprise stops to bring us random but very nice-smelling plants off the side of the road. He eventually took us to a little hut where we got to sample coconut, fresh chocolate, and starfruit, amongst other tasty snacks. We got a meal of chicken and breadfruit on leaf plates that was absolutely divine.
After our meal, we headed to the first waterfall. The water was frigid, but we got to enjoy some nice clay mask action and watch the boy’s huk flips. Afterward, John and I had some delectable fried chicken from the front desk. 10/10 would eat again.
The next leg of our journey was a long one. Despite this, my van of John, Skylar, Julia, Lindsay, Zoe, Asa, Rachael, and Jac was a blast. We talked all about the hit movie the Room and shared lots of laughs reciting the commonly used phrases aboard Vela. Eventually, we made it to our next destination. It was a double waterfall and was probably the coolest place I had ever been. We had to clamber up a ton of slippery boulders to make it to the top of the first fall. Once there, we found a pool, and everyone got a chance to dunk under the massive heaps of falling water. We also got to spend time lounging in running hot water and clay all along the side of the waterfall. The view was amazing, but the view of all of us spray-tanned in mud was even better. It was an incredible experience that unfortunately ended in Skylar and John, amongst others, getting nettled and having major bad itches.
We ended our night with a KFC treat. While the wait for our food took close to an hour and a half, the chicken was nonetheless exquisite. Julia, Zoe, and I had a pleasant walk back to the boat with our coconut (for protection) and fried chicken. At the boat, we devoured our meal and flew right into the Goblet of Fire, voting for student passage positions. Congrats to Amelia, Emy, Julia, Isabel, Skylar, and Rachael for winning the elections!!
