Location: Underway to Bali
Good evening, everyone!!
Last night, Watch Team 1 had watch from 8 pm-12 am. We were all sitting around the cockpit telling stories and keeping each other awake when we saw dolphins jumping out of the water next to Vela. It was so incredibly majestic, and Smash almost cried. They were jumping so high and so close it looked like they were going to jump onto the boat. This morning, our watch team was on again from 8 am-12 pm, and we raised the main sail, the main staysail, and the jib, and we turned the engine off because we finally had enough wind to sail! We sailed for most of the day, which was a great feeling. For lunch, we had Polenta Bake, which everyone kept calling placenta bake. It was really delicious though. After lunch, we had marine bio class, where we had our fish ID quiz. We had to memorize the names and pictures of 17 fish. We all thought that we couldn’t do it, but after studying for 10 minutes and quizzing each other on watch, we got them all down. We learned about the taxonomy groups of marine animals and plants during marine bio, and then we had seamanship, which is my favorite class, where we have been learning to read and map out a chart.
For dinner, we had some delicious vegetable curry with naan. The sun was setting over the bow of the boat, and there weren’t any clouds in the sky behind us. The moon was full, and it looked like cheese. After dinner, we did the squeeze, and Audrey helped me with my question, “Would you rather have a horse-sized bagel or a bagel-sized horse.” Jackson said he was going to breed his bagel-sized horses and make an army, then have them fight each other, make money off the fights, the use the money to buy bagels. Now everyone is doing cleanup, and I can hear Ms. Jackson by Outcast playing out the hatch and all the deckies singing along while they scrub the deck. Right now, we’re still sailing, but I think we’re going to drop the sails and start motoring again so we can get to Bali in time.
