Location: Sanur, Bali, Indonesia

Our first full day back in Bali felt good. Like we returned to a home away from home. We spent the morning doing Boat Appreciation, where everyone worked together to clean our personal spaces, scrub the top, bottom, inside, and out of the boat, fix things that needed fixing, take inventory of our food stocks, check expiration dates, and begin to finalize our provisioning plan for the long passages ahead. We organized our bunks, changed our sheets, and sent our bigger clothes items to be washed on shore.

Quick side note: on our way back to Bali from east Indonesia, while my watch team was on for 12-4 AM, we got to see the bioluminescence lit up in our wake from the rudder and hull. It felt like our ship was flying straight out of Peter Pan on a magic trail of fairy dust. Then, dolphins appeared out of the night! I looked over the edge to watch them as they momentarily swam alongside the boat, kicking up the glowing algae with their tails, making it look like their bodies extended behind them as they darted around below the surface. If I didnt know any better, I would bet money we had our first run-in with some mermaids.

After a French toast and bacon lunch courtesy of Chef Juliette, we finished up boat appreciation and had our first shore time in Bali! We got gelato, perused the grocery stores for a trial run on snacks before we will soon have to load up and depart the land of grocery stores for the foreseeable future.

Returning to the nice, shiny, clean boat, I spent some time studying in my hammock on the bow with a nice, cool breeze before we had rice, chicken, and vegetables for dinner and shouted out to our fellow crew members on their cleaning work ethic from this morning!

Tomorrow, we will continue to explore the Island!

Best!
