Location: Porto Venere, Italy

Milk and cereal are a good way to start the morning, but what made it even better was the sunrise over the Italian mountains. While we were cleaning up after breakfast, a lightning storm rolled in, so we had to turn off all the electronics which made for an interesting first class of the day. The class was led by Emy and Lauren, who made for fun teachers on how Leadership is different and continues the change throughout time, they planned a cool activity where two people try to move in sync without giving away who the leader is, but that was pretty easy to tell since no one had attempted it before of practiced it; they set the bar really high for the rest of us according to Ash (the teacher). This was followed by a much-needed intro to scientific reading and writing because most of us are just out of high school. Lunch was a hearty meal of Quiche with a side of the sickness healing couscous (according to Jimmy). Then we transitioned into boat appreciation which is where we do a thorough and deep clean of the boat where we scrub the sols(floors), walls, ceilings, we pretty much scrubbing all scrubbable surfaces. I thoroughly enjoyed boat appreciation because I got to put new sheets on my bed and organize my cubby again, and it needed it. We also put sail covers on was interesting, to say the least, and had many of us confused. The group that was cleaning the engine room said they had a head rush because they were hanging upside down scrubbing the bilges. After we were finished scrubbing the deck, a group of us started giving massages to each other. While most of us were cleaning or getting a massage, there was an accident in the kitchen. According to the chefs of the day, while they were attempting to sprinkle chili flakes into the tomato soup, the other side of the lid opened and dumped a bunch of them into the soup, but it probably wasn’t. Luckily we had grilled ham and cheese sandwiches to dull the spice a little. The sandwiches and soup were the best things we could have had after a long day of cleaning.
