Location: Saline Bay, Mayreau
Hello everyone at home, and welcome to day 26 on Ocean Star! Today, we started off the morning with a delicious sausage egg casserole made by Head Chef Alaina James. Afterward, we had our presentations for our literature reviews in Oceanography and learned about some very interesting topics. We had some fun with them as anyone who wore something “out of the ordinary” and ocean-themed got a bonus point. During the presentations, we enjoyed something we haven’t had in weeks: cold juice! Then, we picked up the anchor and departed from the Tobago Cays. We had sandwiches for lunch on our short passage to Saline Bay in Mayreau, then dropped anchor. In the afternoon, we had a leadership presentation from Thomas, causing some exciting discussions on philosophy and ethics. We got some free time in the afternoon and spent it swimming around the boat, diving off the bow, and snorkeling. After that, we did some work in preparation for our upcoming scuba diving advanced open water course. We did our boat showers with a beautiful sunset while blasting some 2010s pop music. Dinner was an amazing pasta chicken dish, and we ended squeeze with the question, “Would you rather fight a lion once a year for the rest of your life or have a rattlesnake in your bed every time you go to sleep?” We had a very eventful cleanup as we saw many spotted eagle rays, sea snakes looking like mystery creatures (because the marine scientists taught us sea snakes don’t live in the Caribbean), squid, and other fish off the side of the boat. We got out some dive lights, went night swimming, and saw some fascinating creatures. After cleanup, we all hung out in the saloon and did some work. Then we watched Pirates of the Caribbean and had popcorn! Stay tuned for a fun and out-of-routine day tomorrow! Signing off. – Corinne
