Location: Ile Cabrits, Les Saintes, Guadeloupe
Hey, yall, it’s Katherine here. Last night, we sailed from Dominica to the next island. The crossing was crazy. The foxhole got water in it, the door to the saloon was ripped off its hinges by a big gust, and a few of us went sliding around the boat. (Dont worry; no one was hurt.)
Today, we saw Les Saintes for the first time in daylight. The island is beautiful, with large green mountains, sandy beaches, and red-roofed houses. We had a lot of study time for our midterm exam tonight and papers that are due soon. After a few packed days, it’s nice to have a bit of a slower pace to catch our breath. Ben is helping me read over my paper currently.
Claire, Chloe, Nadia, Mani, Robert, and I were open-water divers. We had our navigation dive, where we had to navigate the ocean floor with our compasses and find our way back to the group. I accidentally grabbed some fire coral, which stung my hands a bit and really hurt. Chloe and I played mermaids at the top of the dive, and that helped distract me from the pain.
Max, Rhianna, and Jackson completed their advanced open-water dives today, becoming certified as Advanced Open-Water divers! So, after lunch, they began training for their rescue diver course with Will and Owen. They saved Meg. And they saved her again and again and again.
Afterward, we had our ocean showers. I did some studying with Will. Nick was pulled up to the top of the mast with two lines to try to fix our radar. This was unsuccessful, so I suggest trying to ask chat GPT what to do with the issue.
Then we had dinner, which was delicious tacos cooked by Annika. Tomorrow, we will have time to explore the island! I’m looking forward to it all.
