Location: Las Palmas, Gran Canaria, Canaries
The first real diving for the newly certified students happened today. It was two shore dives into a marine protected area on Gran Canaria. We entered through the surf into a reef formed of submerged volcanic rock. The diving was good, with visibility around 40 feet. We saw lots of reef fish, octopi, a medium-sized ray, and lobsters. We went inside several small caves and covered a good bit of ground. It was a great warm-up for diving in the Caribbean.
