Location: Pacific Ocean

Today’s morning watch set the day off at a high. As we were taking turns helming and running hourly boat checks, we saw a small island on the horizon, which was a very exciting sight when it’s been days since we’ve seen any sort of land. As if that was not a gift enough, two fish bit the two lines we had off the back of the boat at the exact time. Isaac and Harrison reeled them in with an audience of cheering crewmates. They ended up being two decently sized wa-hoos, which we all were so stoked to cook up and eat later that day. On that high, we sat together to eat lunch, enjoying a cloudless sky and sharing our favorite late-night watch games.
After cleanup, the 80-day students had biology, and then we all had seamanship class. We started learning how to use charts to begin our journey to
become Nav Masters (hopefully). I have never been more confused, but with a bit more practice and “office hours” (aka following Charlie around the deck, asking endless questions, and thanking him for his patience), I’ll be a pro! Anxious to try the wa-hoos we mustered in the cockpit and devoured the fish, feeling extra grateful for the hard work of our crew. Alyssa wants her parents to know that it was really, really good! Huge appreciation to today’s chefs Everett, Noelle, and Isaac! We ended the night with our question of the day, which was what we would ask the seamester staff if they had to answer yes. Then we said goodnight and split up to sleep or go on watch. Love and miss everyone back home! Can’t wait to see you all and share more of our fun stories!
Lots of love
Kaya
