Today, Velas’ crew experienced the source of South African waters’ notoriety in the form of 5-meter-high waves that thrashed our vessel into a roller coaster of a ride. The seas were high enough to have even the most resilient of us leaning over the cap rail. I personally tried Dramamine for the first time todayit didn’t really workjust made me more tired. But honestly, it all could’ve been a lot worse since I had the blessing of a warm shower. Kyler and his sous chefs made a delicious lunch, which led us into class, a treacherous class for us to say the least. Between class and dinne,r the crew split off and did their own thing, some on watch, others studied in the salon, while the rest (including myself) let the Dramamine knock us out. I was awoken to the glorious realization that I get to eat MORE of Kyler’s cooking. Dinner waswell, quite honestly, I don’t know what you call itbut it had shredded chicken, naan, lettuce, lentils, and a sauce. And as boring as that all sounds, believe me, I am the worst food describer out there, and that meal was heavenly. At this point, the waves had mostly flattened, which was a weight off all of us. During clean-up, I helmed with a beautiful sunset, got laughed at by Hannah for listening to Phil Collins, and then we had ICE CREAM!!! It was all pretty much melted, but I can’t complain; ice cream is ice cream, and everyone was happy. Ultimately, a great way to end a gloomy day.
