Location: Port Louis, Mauritius
Today started with me waking everyone, but I did not do a great job since a few people were still asleep when we started breakfast. Once I finally got everyone up and we did count off, Smash let us know we were having Crepes for breakfast with a side of cut-up hotdogs that we had last night for dinner. We finished eating, and everyone did their jobs for the day. And after we had our jobs done, we were set free until 6:30 p.m. Before we left, about half the students were trying to figure out where they could get their laundry done. After a few phone calls, we found a place that would take all our laundry. Four of us walked over to the ladies’ house that would take our laundry. It took about 45 minutes to get there, and we needed a little help from locals. The other group left 10 or 20 minutes after us, but they got a taxi there, so they arrived at the same time as us. At this time, we were split into four groups that all did different things during the day. Kasey, Allie, Ayden, and I all went south to Beach Resort, about a 45-minute drive from the port. All we did there was walk down the beach in the rain to the resort, which was really fun and nice to be in the rain since we had not seen much rain at all during the trip. I can count on my hands the amount of times it has rained so far. Once we got to the resort, we chilled at the restaurant, and we had an amazing lunch. The food was so good. Since it was raining the whole time, Kasey, Ayden, and I all tried to plan or register for classes for when we returned to school the next semester. Once the rain stopped, we tried to find our way out of the resort, and it was a total challenge. All I will say is the people staying at that resort should feel really safe because you can only get out the front gate or on the beach, which is the way we went. After, we went to a grocery store and a few stores, then back to the waterfront shops. We got more groceries/snacks there and a few clothing items and got some wifi to download movies to watch.
A few others had the same idea to go to a resort and chill out for the day, but they went to different parts of the island. But I do not know what they did other than relax there. Jackson, Wes, Griffin, and Nico went north to go to the beach. They ended up shopping and going to the beach. I was told that Jackson and Nice both got suits, and the others got a few cool pieces but not classy. They said that they all had a great time up there and also had an amazing lunch. They were able to go swimming because it was not raining as much as it was where I was. I am also not allowed to swim right now due to really bad cuts on my hands, so that’s also why we did not swim at the resort, but it sounded enjoyable to be able to get in the water. We all thought the water was going to be really cold, but after dipping my feet and the boys swimming, we felt that it was not that cold. I believe that Cristine was also with them but split off pretty quickly and went surfing. He said where he went was really cool but was told it is not the best time of year to surf because the waves can get really nice and big where he was. He was still able to enjoy the waves, he said, though, on the way back, the taxi said it was going to be a lot more expensive to get back. So, he decided that we would take the bus for a dollar. On the bus, he said that he talked to a passenger and had some great conversations, even with a language barrier. Other than shopping and swimming, I do not know what else they got into.
Finally there was one other group, which was all girls, and they went for a hike and went to the grocery store to get snacks. I did not get many details from them other than that they had a really good time. A few other them said that it felt amazing just to be surrounded by trees and not the sea. We all returned to the boat around 6:30, and some of us showered and quickly found out that Smash had replaced a few of the head extractor fans, which had been broken because people did not know how to turn the lights off. Finn and Zoe picked up our dinner from an Indian restaurant and brought it back to the boat. The curry selection was really good and I got seconds a few times once everyone else was done eating. We finished the night up with a Squeeze, and now everyone is doing school work or chatting with family or a friend.
I have to now get breakfast ready, so until next time.
