Day 20 marks the beginning of the end for this trip. Today and tomorrow, we give back to Vela during something we call BA (boat appreciation).
Today was “messy BA”. We cleaned all the awkward parts of Vela that often get rejected.
The team worked incredibly hard, and it was awesome to see.
Students split into different teams, but were all pushing towards the same goal.
The deck team got up amongst it in the laz and anchor locker. Fully emptying it and then giving a deep clean. The same was repeated for the anchor locker and all storage on deck.
A team also got overboard and gave the top sides some love (removing rust stains and black marks). The water line also got a good scrub, removing all the algae that managed to grow there over the past 3 months.
Down below: every bilge was emptied, scrubbed, and dried. Students also gave the galley some love, and some students even climbed in the fridge/freezer to give those spaces an awesome deep clean.
There were a hundred other jobs that got done today, and afterwards, Vela was starting to look new!!
