Location: Underway to Tarragona
The day started bright and early with watch team 2 filling the 12-4 am night watch slot by falling in love under the stars. They then awoke watch team 3, aka Club 3 (the best team IMO)* for the sunrise watch, which was full of Pitbull and house music. It’s much easier to stay awake when you’re clubbing on deck. Finally, watch team 1 took over at 8 am, where the wind changed in our favor, and we finally got to get all six sails up! Personally, I was awoken by the uncomfortable silence of having the motor not running and Asa’s screams of excitement to finally be sailing. Once I got everyone up around noon, we headed on deck to have some of Allie’s amazing oven-baked mac and cheese handcrafted by her and her sous chefs, Hendo and Wilks. Afterward, since we finally had the jibs and fisherman up, we did some sail training, learning how to trim the different sails and proving that we would make an excellent rowing team. A couple of tacks and jibs later and we headed downstairs for a Marine biology lecture about King Phillip going to Spain or something like that; we were planning on having a leadership presentation afterward, but Ash decided to give us some more time to catch up on sleep, studying or showering something most of us need to do more of. My watch team couldn’t do any of that, though, because we had to go back on deck for watch where sadly, the wind had died, and we had to strike the jibs, fisherman, and main sail before flaking and tying them down. Luckily when we finished, the chef team had prepared some chicky chicky ticky ticky (Boom Boom) for dinner paired with some delicious naan bread; and if you were wondering, sprinkles in naan make it 100 times better. After a long day of actual sailing, it was the perfect meal to bring our energy back up. Now Im off to sleep because I have a 12 to 4 am watch that I’m weirdly looking forward to.
