Location: Elba, Italy

Hey, ya’ll! Today was literally the perfect day. For 8 of Vela’s crew members, the day started at 4 am with a beautiful sunrise that revealed the island of Elba (just off the coast of Italy). For everyone else, the day started at 8 am with an epic dance party to wake everyone up, DJ’d by yours truly, and consisting of me plus anyone waiting in line for the bathroom, haha. This morning had some of the heaviest rain we have seen so far, which the boys tried to blow away, but you can guess how well that worked. So our planned scuba dive got rescheduled, and we instead had classes in the morning: marine biology & seamanship. Today was a knot-tying day in seamanship, and we learned all about the history of studying marine biology. For lunch, we had grilled cheeses provided by the lovely head chef, Cat! Then they ferried us to the land in dinghies, and for the rest of the day, we had free to explore the island. We visited shops along the shore, majorly stocked up on snacks at the grocery store, visited a historic fort, and enjoyed an authentic dinner and gelato for dessert out on the town! Now we are getting ready for bed and starting the night watches, so we’re getting ready for some serious gab seshes!
SPECIAL SHOUT OUT to Luke’s mom! Chris, the crew of Vela wishes you a very happy birthday!
And happy early birthday, Dad! (His bday is tomorrow)

And if I don’t see you, good afternoon, good evening, and good night.
