Location: Underway to Palau
Life at sea has changed me.
As skipper, I began to make my wake-up rounds for lunch. First target: Spencer and his alter ego ‘Hugo’. Hugo has been rumored to scream uncontrollably, sing Hebrew tunes, and bang on William’s bunk, who was fortunate enough to find himself unharmed this morning. I was not as lucky. As I made my first move to tap Spencer’s shoulder, Hugo took the reins and immediately exited his bottom bunk with a tuck and roll. Bewildered and a little bit excited for what was to come, I watched Hugo contort Spencer’s body into a full-on downward-facing dog.
Six days into passage, Captain Tomer cooked up some delicious fresh fruits and veggies for lunch today as we rejoiced in blueberry marinated cauliflower and honey pear. Most people attend lunch with an empty stomach; however, I noticed that William was not a taker of the honey pears. After confronting him post-meal, he confided in his apple addiction and admitted that he has single-handedly consumed every apple on this boat in an attempt to evade night watch.
After lunch, 80-dayers had a Marine Biology class, all students on board got VHF certified (hopefully; results are pending), and new coiling tactics were learned.
As the boat rocks from side to side, imagine cooking a meal (specifically shakshuka), cleaning the bathrooms, washing the dishes in a splash zone on deck, or even cleaning the trash. This is what your children and friends experience every day in a sea state that keeps us on our toes.
Night Watch Teams:
Group 1: Sidney, Beck, Olivia, Emily, Maverick, and Joshua, led by Gabe
Group 2: Lainey, Spencer, Austin, Lexi, and Eleanore, led by Kackie and Anna
Group 3: Casey, Mathilda, Iain, William, and Addy, led by Steph and Kelsey
Group 1 passes their time with reenactments of Gabe’s Japanese folk tales. Group 2 listening to Harry Potter audio books. And my group, Group 3, listens to murder mystery podcasts and plays word games.
Overall, it has only been seven days without land, 0 nights without Hugo, three double rainbows, and 14 days left as we continue to bond over this passage!
