Location: Underway to Mauritius

Hi Everyone! Lina here! Today was the first full day of our two-week passage to Mauritius! We switched watch teams yesterday, and now we’re in completely different groups. I’m in a group with Ava, Christian, Wes, Audrey, Ayden, and Ruby. Yesterday, Ruby took some seasickness medication, so she wasn’t feeling quite right on our 12 a.m.-4 a.m. watch. A flying fish jumped up on deck, and she stared at it calmly before Audrey had to interject and throw it overboard. Ruby also spent all day in the kitchen as head chef, slaving away on some delicious tofu stir fry and tacos with her two diligent sous chefs, Daniel and Finn. One highlight was when Finn stumbled upon a jumble of maggots in the egg carton, and he had to bring the infected container up to the deck without gagging. Today, we had our first Marine Bio exam, which we all spent most of the morning studying for. I’m pretty confident that we all did well, given how much time we put in together to study and quiz each other. The ocean has been pretty calm, and we turned the engine off, so we’re fully sailing right now. It might be a bit rockier, but it’s so much more peaceful and such a great feeling to see the sails raised. The squeeze question for dinner tonight was to mimic your favorite laugh on the boat. There were some great Allies, a handful of Toms, a decent Lucia, and Wes did an incredible imitation of Jackson, but nothing beat Cristian’s genuine reaction to Wes’s imitation. Right now, everyone’s cleaning up, and we’re all settling in for two weeks together in the middle of the ocean on Vela. Until next time, you guys! Much love, Lina
