Location: Gustavia. St Barths
Today, we spent most of our day on shore with a few breaks for class and a picnic. Before that, though, we had an Oceanography and Navigation classes. After that, we had a charcuterie picnic and lunch lunchell Beach. Shell Beach is an artificial beach that is covered mostly in sea shells, which was a unique experience! After that, we were left go to roam the streets of St. Barths. About half of the students got their laundry done at the local laundromat while the others split off to go shopping. Trying to coordinate a pickup for the laundry with Nick was not the easiest, but we all managed to get it done. During Lunch, lunchisland was hit with a huge thunderstorm that flooded the streets and left deep puddles everywhere. The nice cafe I was at did not have a fully waterproof roof, and my guacamole pancakes got flooded. Trying to hide from the rain, I discovered a nice gazebo near a docking area and decided to work on my presentation there. Dinner was the highlight of my day, though, as St. Barths really came alive after 7 pm. I went to a sushi place on the water with Annika, and some of the other students went to a pizza restaurant that specializes in meter-long pizzas. We were picked up by the dinghy at 8 pm and returned from a successful day out with everyone feeling like they had thoroughly explored the island. After coming back, some people were still buzzed with excitement from the island, while others were so exhausted they passed on the salon couch. Overall, it is a very satisfactory day.
