Location: Lombok, Indonesia

Heyo!
It’s amazing to me that after reading so many past trip logs, I’m writing one of my own. Anywayssss, today was a very eventful day as we arrived in Lombok after our first ever passage! We set anchor around 7 am and admired the glassy water surrounding us. With our arrival in clearer waters, we were now allowed to jump into the water to swim, which was refreshing after three days of hot, humid Indonesian sun. After a delicious coffee cake breakfast, we took our swim test, where our Divemaster in training (me) had to do eight laps around the boat while others just had to do 4; oh well, so it goes. The open water students then learned how to set up gear while Amanda M, Amanda D, and I learned how to use the onboard compressor to fill tanks.
After lunch, the open water students got into the water for the first time for their confined dives! The already certified students learned how to drive the dinghies, which was equally fun. As a Divemaster in training, I assisted Ben with Bodhi, Hannah, and Ava’s first dives. Unfortunately, we were dropped into possibly the murkiest water known to man. Masks were lost (and found), people were lost (and found), and skills were taught… somehow. At one point, I was following what I thought were Bodhi’s fins in the water. After a minute, I realized that it was just a trick of the light in the suspended mud. At one point, Bodhi said he mistook a person-sized rock for Ben.
After the dives and gear cleanup, we all had our first ocean shower. Everyone was laughing, and it was generally a good time. Tonight’s squeeze question was “What’s the craziest sequence of events you’ve witnessed?” and it was filled with crazy stories, mostly of broken bones and feet. After this, we will have our first class on this journey! Yay, learning!
Have fun, and stay safe!
