Location: Gustavia, St. Barths
Hey folks, back home today, the crew of Ocean Star had a blast on the beach! The morning started off at 7:30 am with build-your-own oatmeal for breakfast (except for the brave few students who woke up at 6 am to try and find a popular bakery nearby, aka not me), then we hopped in taxis and headed for the beach. It’s our first full day here in St. Barth’s, and we couldn’t be more excited to spend the day on land. Once at the beach, we split up into two groups, girls first, then the boys, and we had our first surf lessons. For some people, it was the first time they ever touched a surfboard, and for others, it was a good refresher. Either way, by the end of the day, everyone managed to catch their own wave. While some students were shredding the waves, the other group was exploring the town, finding French bakeries and boutiques. Our beach day ended around noon when the taxis picked us up and brought us back to the marina. We spent the rest of the day doing some much-needed laundry for the first time and some more shopping. Let me say the boat is already smelling better after today. Lunch was also spent on land, with most people eating a big old burger to make up for the veggie burgers we had last week or getting some fresh Poke. As soon as the sun started to set, the crew of Ocean Star exchanged their regular sailors’ uniforms for a fancy dress or dress shirt (see photo attached). Tonight, dinner was served on a meter-long pizza board (see photo attached). The vibes were good, and the spirits were high. Good music and good company were all we needed to have a good time. It’s now 10 pm, and the crew is keeping the night going with music on board and some cheerful singing. All in all, it was a great day for the crew of Ocean Star and the perfect way to get ready for the second half of the voyage.
