Hey, hey, everyone,
Today was a fun-filled day. Starting off, we had a breakfast cheffed by the one and only Drew, although the rest of us were slightly low energy, and there were some cloudy skies. After breakfast, we all hopped right into a seamanship navigation exam review session. This started at 9:00 am and proceeded for a whopping 2 1/2 hours right up until lunchtime. Lunch was also great: falafel and some yogurt, dill sauce, and vegetables wrapped up in tortillas. Post lunch, we all regrouped, set up dive kits, and prepared for an afternoon of rescue work. We all debriefed with Drew, Heather, and Meg, then jumped into the water to practice rescue skill #7: bringing an unresponsive, non-breathing diver back to an exit point. For this skill, one person was the victim, and one was the hero. The hero checked on the victim and then used their rescue skills to communicate with the boat that there was a diver in distress, prepare to move them towards an exit, and then move them while performing rescue breaths and removing their kit. After each person practiced two times, we all put on our weight belts and descended. On the bottom, we practiced defending our regulators from a panicked out-of-air diver and then helping them find our alternate air source.
Meanwhile Drew and Heather kept us on our toes and made sure to give us some deer in headlights, uncontrolled accent, and panicked diver scenarios to respond to as well. After diving came the much-awaited boom swing. For this, we moved the mainsail boom off the side of the boat and hung a rope from the end. This was then used as a makeshift rope swing. We did some backflips, attempted some backflips, and took some fun GoPro videos. After boom swing came showers, dinner, and clean up.
