Location: Underway to St. Lucia

My day started at 3:30 for the 4-8 watch: calm seas and a Starlink spotting made for a pleasant four hours.

We had Thanksgiving sandwiches (turkey, cranberry sauce, and cheese) for lunch courtesy of chef de cuisine Max and breadmakah Eduardo. Max broke out the Christmas tunes.

No classes were held today, which provided for a calm afternoon for all. Except for those on the 2-6 watch, that is. We braved squall after squall and fought off a number of large marine creatures, all while eating Elis and AAudrey’sgourmet popcorn (there was no rain). Eduardo and Mac caught a massive barracuda, who stole a pair of pliers during the struggle.

Those not on watch made finishing (or starting) touches on their Marine Bio essays, and Ben had some laughs grading the deep-sea marine animals he had us invent as part of yesterday’s exam. Notable entrants included the Jobbius Radfordiae, the flying hippo, and an oil rig. Each had unique adaptations and notable appendages to facilitate their life in the deep sea.

For dinner, galley generals Max, Mich, and Boston prepared honey mustard chicken, potato gratin, and mixed vegetables. Eduardo again made bread rolls, and despite being held at an uncharacteristically appropriate time, it felt like a real Thanksgiving dinner.

Many thanks were given to friends, family, and fair winds. Then, a poll was held: Did we want to extend our passage a few more days, skip St. Lucia to do some sail handling, and hit 7,000 nautical miles on the trip log? The vote was almost unanimous, except for a small minority who nearly mutinied right there. It was all a prank. It’s safe to say we got them pretty good.

Happy Thanksgiving to all.
