Location: Union
It was a great day full of travel and sunshine. After a lovely breakfast from Chef Miguel, we got ready to leave Carriacou and head to Union Island. It was a little hard to say goodbye to such a beautiful place with such incredible reefs, but I have no doubt there are still many inspiring views to come. The trip from Carriacou to Union was very short, around 2 hours, so we did not raise any sails. While just motoring, we had the opportunity to sit up on the bow sprit (carefully). This was a highlight as we hung over the water, watching the swells come and go. We enjoyed this up until we had to go below deck for a marine biology lecture. I found the lecture on marine micro-organisms quite interesting as I am a huge fan of phytoplankton. Others who get a little seasick might disagree with me.
Upon arrival to Union Island, we anchored in Clifton Harbour. While Freddie cleared us in customs, we had a yummy lunch of make-your-own burritos. Following lunch, we had a bit of shore time to explore Clifton and get our first impressions of life on Union Island. As it was off-season, the town was very mellow, and everyone seemed to be slow-moving besides the occasional speeding car or motorcycle. It was an adorable and quaint town with cute roads and even cuter dogs and cats around. I think we are all missing our pets a bit. We spent our shore time shopping around in cute boutiques, hopping on some wifi, and enjoying nice and cold smoothies, sodas, and milkshakes. Once we were picked back up, we pulled up the anchor yet again to head to our next destination. We are definitely getting a hang of the boat operations, much to Drew’s delight. The bow sprit was enjoyed again as we motored around to the other side of Union Island to Chatham Bay, where we would be staying the next few nights. The beautiful cliffs and crystal clear waters make us even more excited to continue exploring the island and getting some diving in. We appreciated the pizza dinner comprised of homemade pizza dough and appreciated the stars at this remote location even more. It should be an eventful night as we study for an oceanography quiz tomorrow while watching Pirates of the Caribbean. We have to do some homework as some scenes from this film are meant to be highlighted in the next few days at our next destination. We are all settling in nicely to our new routine, and with the job wheel fully rotated, we have now experienced every job on the boat!
P.S.
We were sad to see Claire leave early this morning. We miss you already and wish you all the best!
