Location: Dominica

Today started bright and early. Watch team 1: myself, Adaiah, Avi, Camille, Ollie, and Zoe were on deck at 11:55 after a short couple of hours of sleep. Naturally, as soon as we got out, it started raining, which set the tone for the rest of the watch. The conditions during our passage to Dominica were the worst we students have seen thus far. During watch we conducted boat checks every hour, making sure we were clipped on to the boat as we went. The rain went by pretty quickly. Watch was spent playing games, adjusting sails, steering the boat, and having a massage line. We were finally dry until it started dumping rain on us an hour before the end of our watch. This hour was pretty miserable. We as a team, despite these conditions, decided that this watch time (from 12-4 am) was the best one because we got to sleep before and after it. We got to sleep in pretty late, which was super nice. Dom, as head chef, made breakfast burritos, which were served at 12. The cut-up sausage was so yummy. We then spent the entire day cleaning the boat – washing down the deck, putting oil on the wood, scrubbing the sides of it, etc. For dinner, we had jerk chicken, rice, and caprese salad. Now we are about to have Ignacios oceanography class, and earlier we did some navigation work with Gabe. For whoever is reading, we love and miss you!
