Location: Underway to Indonesia

I had my 4-8 am watch and decided to challenge myself to helm for five consecutive hours. The rules were that I couldnt leave at all or else I failed, so I used the washroom earlier and made sure I had some coffee and an open can of pinto beans on standby. It was actually easier than I thought, but it was hard to process that I was finally leaving Oceania. Today, we entered Asia, and I had the honor of leading Vela into Indonesia. We also re-entered the Southern hemisphere of the Equator which was pretty cool, counting down the coordinates reminded me of the count down for New Years for some reason.

We passed a few fishing boats and huts as we got closer to Indonesia, watching the sky turn into an opaque orange; as usual, the sunrise never disappointed. Interestingly enough, I was surprised that the island of Papua had so many hills; for some reason, I thought that the horizon wouldve been flatter.

It was a pretty satisfying way to enter Southeast Asia. This will be my second time coming to Indonesia, yet I was limited to just Bali. I always felt like this country had so much potential as a whole, and Im grateful to be back.
