Location: Underway to Elba
Today has been quite the day indeed. We started the day off with a 7:30 breakfast of Sabrinas yummy breakfast bread! Then, we had a quick marine bio lecture with Meg in the salon, then we practiced a Man Overboard drill and split into our watch teams. We also had a brief Mamma Mia soundtrack dance party (it was mostly me dancing) while we cleaned up our bunks and prepared to leave for Elba! We put up some of our sails, including our Main Staysail and Forward Staysail. Samantha, O, Emily, Nacho, and I equipped our Staysail halyard, which was much more difficult than I thought it would be. Once everything was done, we left Sardinia at 10:00 am and headed for Elba. Watch team 2 was the first on, so Teo, Jem, O, Sam, Emily, Alexa, and I made sure that the boat was running smoothly and that we were on the right course. Around lunch time, one might say I had a bit of a rough time. I was bestowed the great honor of being the first to puke off the side of the boat!! Everyone on the crew was very sweet and had zero hesitation to refill my water bottle for me or bring me saltines. After lunch, everyone attended a Leadership class with Aidan and then a Scientific Writing lecture with Nacho, while I took a much-needed nap. Around 6, we had a delicious dinner of veggie pasta and Naan bread, courtesy of Sabrina, Sam, Maria, Oscar, and Cameron, which Im grateful that I felt well enough to shovel down happily. Right now, were watching a beautiful sunset as we continue our course to Elba, and were expecting to arrive there around 9:00 am tomorrow morning. I personally cannot wait to touch soil once again!
