Location: Porto Azzurro

Good evening from Porto Azzurro! Last night was an absolute wild one. Once we got about halfway to Porto Azzurro with a boatload of seasick students, it started to absolutely pour with rain. I had watched from 4 am to 8 am, which was a pretty good shift. The rain had died down, but we were still getting hit with flashbangs from the lightning and heavy winds. Towards the end of our shift, as we were starting to get close to our destination, the wind and rain had almost gone away. Our watch team was tasked with lowering both the front and main staysail. By the time that had been completed, we were pulling into the harbor where we would anchor for the day. Breakfast was granola, yogurt, and some fruit. Today was a big dive day; the goal was to get everyone in the water and diving. The plan was to dive over this deep shelf and explore around the area. I was in Rachel’s group, and since no one had been here before, we tried to find the shelf, but we had no luck. We dove over the seagrass, trying to spot cool animals.

For the certified divers, there was talk of a 140ft deep shelf that they would dive to about 90ft. It turns out none of the groups found the so-called “Ghost Wall”. When we got back to the boat, we had a great salad for lunch, and I took an amazing 4-hour power nap, which was much needed after my watch earlier in the morning. We then got the boat ready for a really short passage to Porto Azzurro. Dinner tonight was a noodle stir-fry that Rachel made. It was so good! Now we are cleaning up after dinner, and I have no idea what we’re gonna do after that. Tomorrow we are getting off the boat and doing a 4-hour hike. Apparently, we are going to hike past where Napoleon was imprisoned on the island. I am really excited for that.

I hope everyone is well back at home and can’t wait to see my friends and family in 80 days!!!
