Location: Underway to Porto Venere

Today we took our first steps on land since leaving Rome! After munching on some delicious banana bread made by our head chef, Jem, we prepared for our hike around Elba. Unfortunately, it started pouring rain right when we were loading in the dinghies to be taken ashore, so we all started our hike a bit soggy. Thankfully, the rain stopped right when we started hiking, and we all were able to dry off in the sun. The views were incredible, and as we climbed higher and higher, they got even better. We reached a little sanctuary, which was supposed to be our stopping point, after only about 45 minutes, but we all were having so much fun that we decided to continue on to the summit. After hiking some more, we stopped to enjoy our lunch of cold quesadillas. Once we climbed to the top of the peaks, we started our descent towards town to enjoy some free time.

Most of us stopped in a grocery store to stock up on personal snacks, and by personal snacks, I really mean sweet treats for after dinner. Dont worry, though, as many of us also bought some fresh berries to enjoy while walking around town. Teo, Matthew, Cameron, Samatha, Bryson, Alexa, Amelia, Luca, and I stopped to have some pizza and a much-needed glass of cold water before heading back to the boat. Once back on the boat, we all helped prep Argo for our passage and then took our ocean showers. We then headed down to the salon for a Seamanship class for a lecture about the International Yacht Training certification. By the time class was over, we were already underway, and dinner was made. We all enjoyed more pizza while watching the beautiful sunset.
