GOOOD morning everyone (if it is the morning for you). Let me tell you about today. OKAY?
I woke up for a 12-4 am watch, which was pretty uneventful except for a few people feeling a little sick. I even felt a little sick at the helm during the last part of the watch. Anyway, then I went straight to bed, had a healthy little sleep, woke up naturally at 10 am, and had a small workout. Which was wayyy too hot and rocky, but it felt good after, regardless. I wished it were with Maia again, but she was on watch, so we couldn’t work out together.
Then I ate breakfast with Vera and made YUMMY coffee with my NEW French press, which I found in Bali (#score). It was a very nice morning on passage.
It very quickly became lunchtime, and Zeke, our masterful head chef, made tuna salad wraps, which were DELICIOUS. Everyone who likes fish enjoyed it. Others (including Wylie and Alice – #calledout) ate chicken soup, panini leftovers, or even cereal. After I scarfed down my tuna salad, which was my second meal of the day within 1 hour, Mac asked me to take the helm so everybody else could clean up. While I was there having a deep conversation with Sam about the globalized food industry, we heard the fishing line start to pull, and Sam yelled “FISH,” which scared me because it was very aggressive. Henry, Perry, and Mac all ran to the stern to help reel in the fish, and when it started to come out of the water, Perry yelled, “WAHOOOOOOOO!” WHAT THE HECK! We just learned how to identify Wahoos for our species ID quiz #1, so it was a great learning moment. For Marine Bio, Perry dissected the fish, which I chose to opt out of because I felt like I might yack. But it seemed like there were a lot of interesting bits, like Wylie pulled out a parasite, Henry ate an eye, Riley ate the heart, and Destiny couldn’t decide what was too gruesome to video for a Reel. I don’t actually know if I would call those details interesting, but I hope they are interesting to you!
Then we had Marine Bio exam one review and Nautical Science lecture. We were all a bit tired from those, but alas, we made it through. As soon as we finished, Jewel and I immediately went down to the salon to have a much-coveted snack: Nutella and PB&J sandwiches!! They were perfect for a post-class snack. I also whipped out the Lays I bought in Bali, which claim they were made in the U.S., but I am doubtful of that. I’ll look it up when we get service again. They did taste like Lays back home, though, which was nice. We all relaxed until it was time to get up and get ready for dinner around 5:30 pm. It was a very eventful dinner.
We ate quinoa bowls and chicken (we’ll probably eat Wahoo tomorrow), and Kyler made banana bread for a belated birthday treat for Perry and Mac. It was a filling, delicious, and nutrient-heavy meal. I started Squeeze and asked everyone what they thought the color of the person to their left’s aura was. I said Mac had a light purple aura. Can’t explain why.
MAN OVERBOARD
Someone yelled. Uh oh. Kevin was sent flying into the vast open Indian Ocean. But don’t worry. Kevin is just Maia’s water bottle, named after the nickname of his rescuer, Keith. We salute those who jumped up and helped grab Kevin, as the chances of retrieving a man overboard are slim to none. Those who jumped up to point and keep eyes on Kevin included Fin, Hannah, and Zoe (and probably more). Maia was there too, but she was in shock at losing her beloved Kevin. Those who grabbed Kevin included Riley, Keith, Henry, Perry, and Kyler. Quite the team. All this while watching the beautiful sunset and moon rise. What a perfect drill to end the night off with. And what fun knowing that Kevin will be able to sleep happily in his bed tonight. Goodnight, Kevin! Q
