Location: Underway to Saint Helena

Last time I was skipper, it was day 1, and now we are nearly at day 20! It feels like weve been on the boat forever and for no time at all. Today started with a fantastic 8-12 am watch shift last night. The stars were beyond incredible, with entire galaxies arcing overhead and familiar constellations like the Southern Cross rising over the horizon. Erin completed a major achievement last night on watch- she helmed for the entire 4 hours!! We are all SO proud of her! The moonrise last night was also crazy, as it was so late and rose in such a way that it appeared to be the amber lights of a large boat on the horizon. We all freaked out just a little bit before realizing that it was only the moon. The jumpiness was definitely due to the fact that Zoe had just been telling us about the ghost who lives on Vela (her name is Veronica).

After our watch ended, watch team 2 got some blissful sleep before regrouping on deck at 7:50 for our morning 8-12. We did some sail handling right off the bat, and then did some chores around the boat. We had chicken and couscous for lunch, made by Vittoria and Nashota. Perry and Mac put a flying fish they found washed up on deck on our fishing line as bait in hopes of catching something today (sadly, we did not). We had marine bio and seamanship class today, and got an introduction to the navigation master section of seamanship, which Sam teaches. Afterwards, Henry, Zoe, and I played a game Henry made up, which is basically go fish but with the Colregs day shape flash cards from our PSC class. It was certainly a unique way to study! We had dinner, which was pizza! Nashota and Vittoria totally nailed it. We did squeeze (my question today was if you could design your own planet, what would it look like?) and had a rock-paper-scissors tournament to end it.

Passage is going great, and we are all excited to get to St. Helena soon! The water is so deep blue out here in the middle of nowhere, and the air is so crisp. Its so incredible realizing that we are literally in the middle of the Atlantic right now!!

Hi, and I love you so much to my family and friends! Also, Henry says hi to his family!

Until next skipper day!

P.S. Mom and dad, I am so sorry, but I need you to call my dentist and cancel my appointment that is sometime this week (just got a reminder on my phone, SUCH bad timing. Totally forgot about that). Ok bye!

P.S. Hi mom and dad! I miss you so much, and I cant wait to call once we get to St. Helena. Ive been practicing my knots too! Love you! – Erin
