Location: Underway to Devils Island
Goodddd morninggg!!! My beautiful watch team(Emma, Perry, Camilla, Henry) started out the day with the 8-12, and beautiful, fluffy, amazing frosted cinnamon buns made by Alexa, shoutout to Hannah y for the frosting. After the best breakfast, so much happened. We saw a vessel restricted in its ability to maneuver, which made our colreg warriors very happy, and we saw like a dozen rainbows, such a cool thing. Then I started getting lunch ready cause I was filling in for Grant as head chef, and all of a sudden Perry goes “dolphins get on deck!!”, so very exciting. We rush up, and there are dolphins and whales jumping out of the waves like a lot. It was so majestic! Once they stopped gracing us with their presence, I went back to chefing. Vittoria came in and saved the day, so lunch was some delicious rice bowls with Cajun chicken and coleslaw. We went right into charting after cleanup. This was our last partner class before we head into the practice test and then the real deal, very snazzy stuff. Then we went into sail handling for most of our afternoon, which was the best thing ever.
We had to reef the main to make it shorter because we’re so fast and we don’t want to arrive at Devil’s Island in the night. It involved a lot of sheeting in and then out, and easing our favorite preventer! While we were two sixing the handy billy we pulled so much with all our strength that we snapped the line holding it onto the reefing line, oopsie. Then we did some more fancy work with the staysails, and Grant, Vittoria, Kyler, and I took down the jib, one of my favorites! Vittoria and I started chefing pretty late, but we locked in and got it up on time, good stuff. After some more rice and beans and chicken and corn, we had my squeeze question, which was how much wood could a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood. The overall consensus was 25. Grant used his chef privileges to trade a cold Powerade with Mac so that he got a chance to press the horn, so the squeeze ended with an overtaking on starboard signal. Now it’s 6-8 party watch for us, very lovely stuff!
I hope all is well back home. I love and miss y’all very much! You’ve probably seen my haircut by now, so I hope you love it, sacrifices at the equator and all.
Love lots,
Nashota
Grant used a horn!!!!!! Yay-Grant
