How is it my last skipper day of this semester?!!?? Im sure I say this every time I write the blog, but truly, where did the time go??
Anyways, today was the day of carbs! Im pretty sure Im 25% baguette now, god bless the French! We started off this morning with some lovely shore time in Deshaies. We disembarked Angkarn and somehow immediately found ourselves in line at the boulangerie. Pastries, oh my! We got pain au chocolat and raspberry tartlets with lemon curd, cake with berries, and the best fresh bread. We left the bakery, went to some souvenir shops, and walked along the beach in town, then made our way to a cafe for a fun bevy, went to the grocery store (Erin and I were over the moon to discover they had pickled sushi ginger (hello anchor watch snack!!))
And Reed and I watched some chickens play on the beach.
Afterward, we returned to the boat for spaghetti and passage prep. We did deck walk-throughs to prepare for our practice-for-racing sail handling tomorrow on the way to Antigua. We have groups of 2-4 people at each sail, and then some designated handy billy/boom vang/help where needed people.
After we had dinner, we gathered in the salon for a seamester tradition. The staff spread out a bunch of black and white postcards on the tables, all with varying art, photography, and surrealist images. We each had to pick two of the cards one that represented something we liked about ourselves, and one that represented something we dont like. Seeing as the cards are rather ambiguous, everyone had very creative interpretations of the meaning behind the pictures and how they related to them. We all shared with the class, and then Emma had us all choose a card that we felt represented an important aspect of leadership. It was very enlightening to see the cards people chose and how they related to them.
And tomorrow we sail to Antigua, officially completing our crossing all the way from Cape Town 🙂
Love to my people and see you all SO SOON!
Love, Hannah Y
