At the time of writing, we are just 15 hours out of Komodo! Everyone is excited to make it to shore and start exploring. But first: our last full day of passage for this leg of the trip. My day started early on Watch Team 2 with a 4-8 am watch. We watched the sunrise in between some light squalls, then caught up on some sleep before lunch (a delicious concoction of Naan burgers – shoutout Jack, Skye, Susie, Maya, and Cornelia!). After, we had our final student presentation of leadership, then Boat Appreciation in anticipation of our arrival to Komodo. Everyone was hard at work bleaching Argo from head to toe (heads included) or scrubbing the deck. After BA, some students went to Marine Biology, and some headed to Watch (ft. a beautiful rainbow) or to finish writing papers. During dinner, our chess tournament continued: Emma beat Julian, and Nacho beat me. I personally hadn’t touched a chessboard in a long time before this trip, and it’s been really fun to see the tournament develop and watch everyone’s rounds. What began as a student-led tournament has now turned into almost an entirely staff-led affair, with the exception of Maxwell, the sole student (potentially) left in the semi-final round. Clearly we students need more practice 🙂
Meanwhile, our day ended with a beautiful sunset and an impromptu dance party. Mom, Dad, and everyone following along – love you lots. It’s crazy to think that we have just fourteen days left! See you soon!
Until tomorrow,
