Location: Barcelona
Hi, again, gang!
What a non-stop busy day in Barcelona! Starting early in the morning with a 6:30 am breakfast and finishing late at night with dinner and drinks. Throughout the day, we hit numerous iconic Barcelona spots on a self-directed city bus tour. The first (and potentially most exciting) stop was customs, where we clambered up many steps of stairs into the local realm of Spanish border bureaucracy. As I always say: Nothing like an early morning trip to customs to really raise the spirits and invigorate the mind! After that and a spot of brunch, we traveled far and wide, first hitting Tibidabo, a hill overlooking the city and coastline. Featured there is Sagrat Cor church, for those who are historically inclined, and an amusement park, for those who are not. They really had something for everyone! Our next stop was Parc Gell, where we wandered for a couple of hours. The tour then finished off with a look at la Sagrada Famlia; unfortunately, we didn’t get a chance to look inside, but the outside was pretty remarkable to see all the same.
At this point, it was barely 5 in the afternoon, and we returned to the boat. The next few hours were ostensibly free, but in practice we all spent most of it prepping for our various exciting evening plans. Namely, fancy dinners all around. Some of us went on an exciting excursion to Cinc Sentits, a two Michelin star experience featuring eight courses and objectively the best olive oil I’ve ever had in my life. For the others, another fancy dinner and a rooftop dance party, so it was an exciting evening all around. It was also a late night; considering our typical wakeup time of 7 am, our group has a bit of a habit of staying up late. I certainly didn’t fall asleep until well past midnight myself, despite the stomach full of nice wine and fine food. The sleep, however, was incredible.
This was our last full day in Barcelona, and we definitely made the most of it. Sights were seen, tours were had, money was spent, and a lot of talking and laughter was all around enjoyed. It was a charming final night in a charming city, and tomorrow we leave for Sardinia!
Signing off,
