Location: Sardinia
We started our day pulling into Sardinia after our first overnight passage. We anchored the boat and once everyone was awake we headed above deck for our swim test, we were all super excited to finally be jumping in the water after our days in port. Hungry after swimming we had a delicious sandwich bar for lunch prepared by the chefs for the day. Then we had to put the “boat to bed” by covering all the sails, wiping down any metal on the deck and spraying down the boat to wash any salt off. After a short break we got right into diving, for certified divers that meant gearing up and dropping the dinghies into the water preparing for a day of diving in the seagrass meadows off of the Sardinian coast. Non certified divers, such as myself, started the process of getting certified with some informational videos, quizzes and hands-on work of how to put together a dive kit. At the end of this great day Ash and Riley made us an amazing dinner consisting of lentil sloppy joes, which I wasn’t sure about at first but I ended up going back for thirds! Overall today was a great day onboard Vela full of making even more lifelong memories.
