Location: Nevis
Morale is at an all-time high. Ocean Star has completed her first passage of the fall semester! Affable wind, high spirits, and old-fashioned grit were instrumental in the journey from Antigua to Nevis. There were, however, some difficulties; one crew member suffered from sea sickness, and many others struggled with adjusting to life on the open water. Additionally, Carli began the day by seeing if her phone could swim. It couldn’t. Drewski was able to jump in and retrieve it, but now it’s in the sushi rice that was supposed to be served with dinner. All told, the peaks of the day were higher than the valleys were deep, though. Drewski began teaching us navigation, and Captain Nick engaged us in an exercise to discover what types of leaders we are. Post-class activities were by and large leisurely, with some students curating their menus for when they’re head chef, free diving with Heather and Drewski, or lounging on the deck. The day wound down with a viewing of the Nevis sunset and a dinner of poke bowls. People are saying this was the best day for music so far. Perhaps it has something to do with the new “Skipper Gets Aux” policy.
