Location: Nevis
Day 9 of the trip and day five without my phone (after I decided to take a little swim with it). After our first wake-up in Nevis, we had our first student-cooked breakfast. Charlie and his sous chefs made the whole crew bagels with an assortment of “fun” fruit. We ate as we watched the rain come over from the volcano we could see right from Ocean Star. After breakfast, we had a speedy clean-up so we could make it on time for our morning adventures. The group was split, with half of us going to the botanical gardens and the other half making the wrong decision to go horseback riding. In. the gardens, we got a lovely tour of plants and trees from all over the world from the owner. To end it all, we got a drink called purple rain, which was made from leaf extract and citrus. It slapped (first cold drink in over a week, haha). After that, we all had a very slim amount of free time in Charlestown (the capital of Nevis) before we had to head back to ocean start for lunch. Lunch of the day was sweet potatoes, chicken, and some veggies, of course. Just like every other meal, I put a layer of siracha on it.
Before dinner, we had an oceanography class where we learned about Pangea and the reasons that show that Pangea was a real thing. The open-water students had to make up their exams and quizzes so we could finally get out our scuba certification!!! Once the work was down for the day, we all got in a dingy and made our way to the sunshine. Sunshines is a local bar and grill that has been serving Sea|mester crews for years. We arrived around six and were greeted with a whole buffet of food, meeting all the dietary restrictions of our crew. After that, all of us who were 18 and older were able to sign off from the crew for the night and have a couple of drinks. Dancing, laughing, and good conversation made this a night to remember. Later on, Steph showed up in the dingy and took us back to a new but familiar place. Our home for the next couple of months, Ocean star. Another great day on a great trip.
