Location: Tobago Cays, SVG
Hola, party people! Welcome to day 26, my first time writing the blog this trip. Hi, Mom; sorry it took so long, but it’s entirely my doing, being that I made all the wheels (:
How fitting that my first day as skipper was our last full day spent in one of my favorite spots on the trip, the Tobago Cays. The crew was awoken to some John Mayer and promises of delicious crepes awaiting them on deck prepared by none other than the A team (Head chef Sean and sous chefs Nicholas and Drew). After our joyous mega science day yesterday, brought to you by myself and Heather, today’s plan was a mega boat day, brought to you by Drew and Nick. Drew started off our day with a seamanship class where the students learned how to do a running fix and a three-point fix and got to practice a bunch of problems with Drews’s watchful eye and insight. We then had another delicious meal, yogurt parfaits, prepared by Sean and his sous chefs. After lunch, it was time for a highly anticipated and long-awaited activity, dinghy school!! Nick started off dinghy school in the cockpit with the whole crew and briefed them on dinghy safety, the ins and outs of both our dinghies, and all the things we have in them. They were then split up into smaller groups and taken into Exy, our tiller steer dinghy, and taught how to operate her. They learned how to turn her on and off, how to drive her, and how to dock her all safely and smoothly. By the end of the day, all students were Ostar dinghy certified by Nick. After dinghy school, everyone got working hard on their marine bio ID logbooks that are due soon, flipping through the ID books, drawing different creatures, and recounting the time they saw each organism over the last 25 days. I am pretty excited to see the final results tomorrow night when they start handing them to me.
Tomorrow morning, bright and early, we are off to our next spot, Mayreau. As my mom would say, ” you guys sure are hopping.” Catch y’all in another 20 days (:
