Location: English Harbour, Antigua
We woke up this morning to our last full day in lovely English Harbor. After a nice breakfast, Nick and Ivy took the students to the Pillars of Hercules. They walked along a rocky bluff overlooking the sea and spent some time learning about life in the intertidal zones. Afterward, a couple of the research groups went for a project dive in the mouth of the harbor. We all had lunch together onboard and then split up in the afternoon for a bit of shore time. People walked the surrounding docks, looking at the amazing boats and wandering through the marina shops. Some spent some time in cafes while others finished up some work on board. We all met back for an early squeeze (which turned out to be a fun game of telephone) and a hike up to a place called Shirley Heights. After a run up the hill, we made it just in time for the sunset. From the top, we had an incredibly picturesque view of Antigua. We enjoyed the view from up on the hill until dinnertime when we headed back down into town. Tonight was a dinner-out kind of night; most people enjoyed the local restaurants while a few of us had our meal on the dock. We had a wonderful day with a spectacular ending.
