Hello Argo Supporters!
Today was a dynamic day for our crew. I woke everyone up bright and early at 5:40 am to get ready for our sunrise breakfast picnic. As the sun rose, we motored over to an island that had been featured in the first Pirates of the Caribbean movie. It was a total pinch-me moment. What do you mean we sailed across the ocean and now are island hopping in the Caribbean?! The waves were crazy as we swam ashore ourselves and our food. Once we got there, Cecil and I took a nice beach stroll and found a ton of conch shells. We ate a yummy French toast meal by the water, and Maddy and I discussed how crazy it is that we are on day 60 of the program. It has gone by fast, but I also feel like I have been with this sailing family for years. We all work together and support one another so well.
After our picnic, we got ready for our short passage to St. Vincent. We had a bunch of people lead sail raises, including myself! To lead a sail raise/take down is a seamanship grade for us, so practice is key. After, we squeezed in a quick oceanography lecture and learned more about how climate change is affecting our oceans. At this point in the day, every time I went to muster everyone, I at least woke half of them from a nap. The early start had everyone in a sleepy mood. Little did we know we would be getting surprise time to rest and chill with one another. While trying to motor into our anchorage spot, we had some trouble with the engine. We ended up being adrift for a bit while Calum and Kackie fixed the issue. We sent Ben and Maddy in a dinghy to secure and defend our spot in the bay. This stall was actually the perfect time to catch up on sleep and hang out. I had a nice nap on the stern with Talia, Sylver, and Nicole. I also had some nice chit-chat with Darien at midships. Cecil, Benny, Zac, and Nini were sunbathing on the bow. These random yet peaceful moments are my favorite on the boat. It is rare our usually fast and busy day slows down and we just get to sit with one another.
Once the engine was up and running, we had all hands on deck to strike the main and prepare to anchor. We also planned and successfully executed tying a stern line to a sturdy palm tree on shore. A fun challenge! Cecil and Maddy jumped to make sure all was well. We are ending today with boat-to-bed tasks and ocean showers. Day 60 was a great day, like all the ones before. I feel so grateful to be a part of this team!
