Location: atlantic ocean
We’ve come to the final day of passage, and the proximity to land is clearly marked by an increase in the seabirds and passing vessels. It’s surreal how short and, at the same time, eternal it feels we have been at sea, and now the prospect of an island coming with sunrise has the crew full up with butterflies. The day started wonderfully with a surprise bake of cinnamon roles from Shelby and was soon followed by a false killer whale sighting by Michelle, myself, and watch team 3. Post cetaceans, I shot some hypotheticals at Nathan and Tom, and the conclusion was that Nate would prefer sailing the trackless seas of the doomed reach between worlds for six months out of every twelve than eat a pound of fruit every day and the good Captain would prefer riding as cowboy on a cattle drive for three months across Nevada over continuing to sail. Head chef Ruffles and his team of Emma and Flo fixed a very special lunch of what I would classify as Sicilian naan, pasta, and assorted toppings, and we followed the meal with leadership class, in which Dan helped us to create a SMART plan to fulfill some choice goals. As I’m scribing this, Emma is digging under her bed for chocolate and screaming that everyone has passed their PSCTs; congratulations to Emma, Andy, Joey, and Johnathan!!! We all know they worked so hard. For Squeeze, I asked if everyone was to write a best-selling novel, with themselves as the main characters, what would be the plot. I recall Anda saying he would be a detective with a chimpanzee sidekick, and Dan said he would be dressed as a caterpillar in a picture book about eating and getting fatter until metamorphosis.
I’m so excited for my morning watch, I hope we will see the island, sweet dreams everyone!
PS. Mom and Dad, I hope you and Nonina and Rainbow are wonderful, and I can’t wait to see you all. This adventure has been beyond spectacular! Send my love to the dancers (also, Captain was teasing about you showing up in an airplane and circling us any time now) lol.
PS. To everyone, here’s a little account of the marine plankton and megafauna I’ve encountered thus far: Portuguese man-o-war everywhere, Sei whales, sperm whales, a big pod of pilot whales (40), two separate pods of pantropical dolphins on different days, ORCAS HUNTING, spinner dolphins, and false killer whales jumping OUT OF THE WATER. Wow!
