Location: Underway to Richards Bay, South Africa
Today’s passage (for me) began up on deck for watch at 3 am. It started dark, and the ocean looked black, but as the sun rose, a slight hue of blue popped into the break of the waves. We jibed at around 6 am with the help of watch team 2. I remember looking back at Tim in the helm while Ethan and I were taking in on the sheet. A huge wave emerged behind him, and all I can describe it as was like a scene from a movie. If you ever saw interstellar, you know that scene when they’re on the planet, and Anne Hathaway starts running towards the mountains, but it actually turns out to be a wave… that’s what it felt like.
I enjoyed watching Tina get a kick out of the boys making lunch in the galley. I’d like to see Gordon Ramsey try to cook Naan and Curry while all of his stuff is flying across the kitchen. I think our Chefs would have him beat.
We had Oceanography to start off classes where Luna and I gave our presentations, mine on Red tides and Lunas on Eutrophication. We finished with Seamanship, where Smash and Coop continued to help us understand our Nav Master material.
For the Squeeze, we did our appreciation of the day, and then Julia helped me with a question which was “what would your strange addiction be?” We had a range of responses from Coop eating couches and Tina eating Crocs, to Aiden hoarding barn animals, to Sofia and Becca (a little more my speed). They would collect a bunch of notebooks and pens they didn’t necessarily need. Mine was Packing everything into Boxes (like Tetris). Oh, and Kiras was Putting soy sauce on everything.
I also held a quiet competition for who could create the best Argo mascot. The Winner gets TimTams!
Who do you think won?
I hope everyone at home is doing well! At this speed, we are due to hit Richards Bay by Tuesday. Yay!!
Best,
-Char
