Location: Gibraltar

Good Morning, blog readers! To update you on the crew of Vela, we ported in Gibraltar this morning!!!
Watch team 1 (myself, Chloe, Watson, James, Theo, Liam, Ruby, Audrey, Sensei, aka Mac, and Emma) was the last team on watch. Pulling into port was awesome! This port is considered one of the worlds busiest, with constant movement of a variety of boats going in and out. Liam and I were put on bow watch for the ending half of our watch and got to use the VHF to tell the people back in the cockpit about boats coming off our bow.
Watson joined us for part of our time up at the bow, and we all got to see two bottlenose dolphins swimming along the starboard side of the boatanother marine animal for our log books! Once we pulled into port, I woke everyone up, and we cracked on putting the boat to sleep.

Grace N. was head chef and made a delicious barbecue chicken sandwich lunch for us with the help of her sous chefs, Boston and Jesse!

At the end of lunch, in honor of it being October 19th, I reminded our crew of our founding fathers and the battle of Yorktown,1781. The crew quickly burst into a patriotic chorus of patriots singing our national anthem. We made sure our British Marine Biology professor, Ben, heard us. (He was very amused but definitely prefers god save the queen).

We had free time for a good portion of our day and were able to go ashore and venture around Gibraltar! I quickly went ashore and grabbed a delightful ice-cold Coke Zero before returning to the boat! Many of us, including myself, spent our time back on board the boat to complete the marine biology literature review on shark provisioning and to take advantage of the on-shore heads for a shower! James and Grace C. took their COLREGS Exam!!! (We are very proud of our two future captains) BOTH OF THEM PASSED!!!!

We ended our day with a fabulous dinner ashore as a crew! Everyone put on their dinner best (sundresses and polos) and had a great night!
